The concept came from my journey and a longing for simplicity. As I didn’t come from a pet care background, it meant I had to work extra hard to stay at the forefront of the industry and ultimately learn how to become a business owner.
6 years later, a highly successful daycare and run a number of dog events across Scotland, I am finally in a position to give back and assist others in their journey. The journey is long and it takes a lot of dedication but I can honestly say, I wouldn’t change it for the world.
Being a small business owner often has it challenges, especially in these testing times however daycare has proven to be a recession proof business and if anything, the pandemic has made my team and I even stronger.
When opening a business it can be hard to get your head around all the different factors. Especially within the pet industry and legislation. I unfortunately made a number of errors when designing my centre. I didn’t utilise the space well enough, didn’t get the most durable products and cost myself more in the long run. It can be difficult without experience to visualise how your centre will look and operate a maximum capacity. I know the number of dogs I could reach however I hadn’t foreseen how many groups would be required and how many play zones. Experience is a wonderful thing however it can save a lot of time and money if you can tap into those resources before you begin.
